One of the most famous and popular Renaissance Festivals in the nation, the Maryland Renaissance Festival has been a criminally underrated and often overlooked event since it was established in 1977!
This year’s festival features over 200 daily performers and 140 vendors across the roughly 27-acre festival grounds located in Crownsville, Maryland, which is just 30 miles from D.C., or about 45 minutes to an hour from the District.
What makes the Maryland Renaissance Festival so fun?
The Maryland Renaissance Festival attracts around 300,000 people every year for nine weekends from late August to mid-October.
The festival includes:
- Around 1,300 cast and crew bring the experience to life, including over 200 performers daily across the festival’s 10 unique stages, such as TikTok sensation Jacques Ze Whipper.
- A dedicated jousting arena with seating for up to 3,000 spectators!
- Thousands of visitors wearing their best themed costumes join in on the role-playing fun. (Costumes are available to rent, but designing or ordering your own costume is recommended.)
