The NFL has officially announced the dates for the 2027 NFL Draft, giving football fans another reason to start planning a trip to Washington, D.C. next spring.
The three-day event will transform some of the city’s most iconic landmarks into the center of the football world, with hundreds of thousands of fans expected to attend.
After confirming Washington as the host city last year, the league has now revealed exactly when the draft will take place—and organizers are promising one of the most memorable settings in NFL Draft history.
When and where will the 2027 NFL Draft be held in Washington, D.C.?
The 2027 NFL Draft will take place Thursday, April 29th through Saturday, May 1st, 2027, according to the NFL.
The three-day event will be hosted in partnership with the Washington Commanders and Events DC, bringing the annual spectacle to the nation’s capital for the first time in decades.
The centerpiece of the event will be the National Mall, where the Draft Theater will be positioned in front of the U.S. Capitol.
Meanwhile, the popular NFL Draft Experience fan festival will stretch along Pennsylvania Avenue NW between 3rd and 7th Streets, with additional attractions spread throughout the surrounding National Mall area.
The announcement comes after the 2026 NFL Draft in Pittsburgh set a new all-time attendance record with more than 805,000 fans, raising expectations that Washington could welcome close to one million visitors during draft weekend.

What to expect when the NFL Draft comes to D.C.
While the NFL Draft is known for its player selections, the event has evolved into one of the league’s largest fan festivals.
Throughout the three-day celebration, visitors can expect a wide variety of free activities, live entertainment and interactive experiences across downtown Washington.
According to the NFL, fans will be able to enjoy the NFL Draft Experience, featuring immersive exhibits, football skills challenges, opportunities to take photos with the Vince Lombardi Trophy, youth-focused Play 60 activities, exclusive NFL merchandise, autograph sessions with current and former players, and the Draft Entertainment Series presented by Bud Light.
The event is also expected to deliver a major economic boost for the District, with visitors traveling from across the United States and around the world.
Combined with Washington’s monuments, museums and spring weather, the setting is expected to make the 2027 draft one of the league’s most unique editions yet.
Is the 2027 NFL Draft free to attend?
Yes.
The NFL has confirmed that the 2027 NFL Draft will once again be free for fans to attend, continuing the format used in recent host cities.
