The Arlington County fleet of snowplows and salt trucks is set to be renamed once again, once the annual “Name That Plow!” contest concludes this Sunday!
Individuals can submit up to five suggestions this time around, and while the organizers of the contest always take D.C.-focused naming suggestions with a grain of salt, Washingtonians are able to participate in the content.
What were the snowplows & salt trucks named in the past?
Last year alone, Arlington County received over 1,200 submissions from the naming contest.
Some of the notable names that stood out included:
- Taylor Drift
- Saline Dion
- Sleetwood Mac
- Sabrina Carpenbrrr
- Sleddy Roosevelt
- Clearopathra
- Alex Snowvechkin
- Smithsnownian
- Travis Melt-ce
Of course, there were also several joke (meme) submissions like:
- Plowy McPlowface
- Mr. Plow

How is Arlington County going to select the winners?
The winners of the naming contest will be selected first by popularity, meaning the most frequently suggested names, and then also by the Department of Environmental Services of Arlington County.
The county reserves the right to select names that it considers to be particularly witty or clever, which means that in the case a particular name wins by popularity, the county has the right to replace the name as it sees fit.
How do you submit a vote?
You can submit a vote online by heading to the official “Name That Plow!” contest website.
When you enter your vote, you’ll be allowed to submit five name suggestions that will replace the names of the snowplows given in last year’s contest.
The only guidelines for votes are that they avoid any offensive, political, or inappropriate references!
