The Trust For The National Mall’s Bloom Cam is live and you can watch the Sakura trees 24/7!
If we can’t go to the cherry blossoms then the cherry blossoms can come to us! That was the idea behind the Trust For The National Mall’s Bloom Cam when they created it last year just in time for peak bloom and before the Covid pandemic. While we certainly did not enjoy that time, the Bloom Cam is one of those great innovations that came out as a result of the adversity the situation gave us all. The Trust For The National Mall teamed up with the NPS, the National Cherry Blossom Festival, and EarthCam to bring the beautiful blossoms into our home, and now they’re turning on once again to help everyone enjoy DC’s beautiful Sakura trees safely.
The 24/7 view was originally meant to allow Washingtonians to enjoy the Cherry Blossom peak blooms during quarantine, but now it’s one of our favorite ways to check how crowded the different areas are around the Tidal Basin during peak bloom. This lets us plan out what days or times are the best to put together a spontaneous walk along the water or even a quick picnic with friends! The best part is that the feed changes camera angles every five minutes, so you can get a complete picture of what the crowd looks like throughout the area and decide where you’d like to go in real time!
“The Trust wants to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to view these beautiful blooms that are part of a living cultural landscape and treasured history,” stated Trust officials on their website. So if you’re choosing to stay at home but wish to enjoy the cherry blossoms in all their peak bloom glory make sure to give the Bloom Cam a try!
You can access the live Cherry Blossoms camera on the Trust’s website.
