This New Bookstore In Mt. Pleasant Is Entirely Dedicated To Food

Bold Fork Books will curb your hunger for culinary knowledge!

The popular Pear Plum Café in Mt. Pleasant may have closed its doors, but an equally appetizing option has opened in its stead. Bold Fork Books, DC’s only bookstore entirely dedicated to the culinary arts, has taken up the torch of providing locals with some of the best-baked goods in town, albeit in the shape of recipes.

At this cute shop, you’ll find books and guides from all corners of the world, all the way from The British Baking Book, which will have you baking like Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood in no time, to East African cuisine books like Bibi’s Kitchen, a cookbook inspired by the stories of grandmothers (bibis) living in the East African countries touching the Indian Ocean.

Created by Clementine Thomas, a veteran of the DC restaurant and hospitality scene, the bookstore has finally upgraded from a popular pop-up at Pear Plum to its first brick and mortar shop in the old café’s space. Catering for the finest palates and cooking aficionados alike, Bold Fork offers everything you can imagine when it comes to eating, drinking and the foodie lifestyle.

They even carry a book created by London’s popular Indian restaurant chain, Dishoom, in which the owners spill all the secrets to their uber-famous Bombay comfort food. And with travel being off the table at the moment, why not bring trendy restaurants from across the Atlantic all the way to your table?

Not everything at Bold Fork is food, of course, there you’ll also find plenty of options touching on topics such as mixology and cocktails, wines and beer to learn how to make the perfect Italian spritz or take a literary tour through the French wine country. And if you’re in need of new kitchenware and accessories, Bold Fork also carries a line of kitchen goods.

The bookstore’s homey vibe with its white walls,  floor-to-ceiling bookshelves with a library ladder and repurposed kitchen furniture, make it the perfect cozy spot where to deepen your palate, learn more about the local culture and hang around while taking in the lovely smell of freshly-baked goods that occasionally wafts in through Pear Plum’s old kitchen where baked goodies for Each Peach markets continue to be made every day.

Bold Fork Books opens from 12 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 6 pm. on the weekends. For more information or online shopping make sure to check out their website.
