If you’re interested in gardening, nature, or specifically, Bonsai, you might be interested in this Bonsai Tree Festival happening this weekend in DC!
The US National Arboretum will be hosting this festival from May 9th to May 11th in order to celebrate World Bonsai Day from May 10th. Bonsai, typically considered a Japanese art form, originated in China in 210 B.C. and didn’t reach Japan until the 12th century.
The weekend will be filled with activities, such as
- exhibits featuring trees from the Museum’s and exemplars from PBA members’ collections
- free demonstrations and styling presentations
- interactive workshops
- children’s activities
- Museum tours
- vendors selling bonsai, pre-bonsai, pots, accents, and supplies
If you’re a beginner bonsai enthusiast, try their beginner bonsai workshop that gives you everything you need to get started — even a tree! For intermediate bonsai lovers, they’ve got workshops for that too where you can bring your own tree and are led by special guest artists.
This is a great festival if you’re looking to celebrate Asian culture for AAPI month!
