Tips for making the most of the flower festival in Nokesville
While we don’t doubt you might think your cutest outfit is a good fit for the incredibly photogenic flower backdrop, this is genuinely farm land, which means that there’s a good chance whatever you wear might get dirty, particularly your shoes.
Aside from bringing comfortable shoes for walking on uneven ground, specifically ones you don’t mind getting dirty, here are a few other tricks to make sure you have the most fun possible:
- Bring a large picnic blanket to ensure you and your friends or family have a comfortable and dry place to sit when you want to take a break.
- This is particularly relevant if you have little ones with you or if you plan to stop and eat while at the farm.
- Bring your own picking basket and flower snippers.
- The farm does have baskets available to borrow, but bringing your own makes things easier.
- Pack a picnic and bring plenty of water.
- The farm is acres of land, so you’ll be doing lots of walking and need to hydrate. By the time you’re done, you’ll be thankful you packed a meal and have a cozy place to sit.
- No dogs are allowed on the farm during the spring festival because tulips are toxic to dogs.
- Wear layers that can be removed or added; the farm tends to be cold in the mornings but heats up as the day goes on.
- Bring an umbrella or at least a hat that will protect you from sun exposure while in the fields on hot days.
- Pack (and use) sunscreen to avoid getting your first sunburn of the year.
- While strollers are allowed, the farm’s bumpy terrain may make it difficult to navigate, particularly after rain.
