If you’re looking for something fun to do in Washington, D.C., next weekend, a brand-new neighborhood music festival is coming to Capitol Hill.
Capitol Hill PorchFest will transform front porches, stoops and yards across the neighborhood into small outdoor stages for an afternoon of live music.
The first-ever event is set to bring the sounds of the DMV to Capitol Hill, with attendees able to walk between different porches and enjoy performances throughout the afternoon.
When and where is Capitol Hill PorchFest?
The inaugural Capitol Hill PorchFest will take place on Saturday, October 10, from 2 to 6 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
Rather than taking place at one traditional festival venue, the event will spread across several Capitol Hill-area neighborhoods, including Capitol Hill, Hill East, Lincoln Park and Barracks Row.
The participating porches are spread throughout the neighborhoods, allowing visitors to walk between different performance locations while exploring the area.
Several Metro stations can also put visitors within walking distance of the festivities, including Eastern Market, Capitol South, Potomac Avenue, Stadium–Armory and Union Station.
The event’s official website will provide the latest band schedule, porch locations and map, so visitors can use it to plan their afternoon.
If the weather doesn’t cooperate, organizers have listed Sunday, October 11, as the rain date.

What to expect at Capitol Hill PorchFest
Capitol Hill PorchFest is essentially an afternoon neighborhood music festival, but instead of one large stage, local porches, stoops and yards will become individual performance spaces.
Organizers say the event will feature dozens of bands playing throughout the neighborhood, giving visitors the opportunity to wander between different performances. The complete lineup and individual porch assignments are still being finalized, so visitors should check the official website closer to the event for the latest schedule.
The event is outdoors and family-friendly, with children welcome. Dogs are also welcome as long as they are comfortable around crowds.
Visitors can bring their own chairs, coolers and kids, according to organizers. Street parking is limited, however, while bike-share stations are available throughout Capitol Hill.
With four hours of performances planned, visitors can either choose a favorite porch and settle in or spend the afternoon walking between different stages.
Is Capitol Hill PorchFest free to attend?
Yes — Capitol Hill PorchFest is completely free to attend.
No admission tickets are required, making it an easy option for anyone looking for a free thing to do in Washington, D.C., this fall.
Visitors can simply head to Capitol Hill on October 10, check the online map and schedule, and make their way between the participating porches.
The event is being built around music, community and neighborhood participation, with local residents offering their porches as stages for the afternoon.
For anyone looking for a different way to spend a fall Saturday in the District, Capitol Hill PorchFest offers a chance to combine free live music with a walk through one of D.C.’s most recognizable neighborhoods.
