Methodology of selecting the cheapest towns to buy a house in around D.C.
With the obvious core indicator of an affordable place to buy a house around D.C., the focus was on the lowest median home sale price as well as the average sale price per square foot, but to genuinely consider these places “around” D.C. we also put a cap on the distance each of these place had from the city as well. With a limit of roughly a 40-minute drive from Downtown D.C., these were the results we were left with. The data used for this analysis is based on home sale data from Redfin Data Center and average rental data is from rent.com, all of which were collected during November 2022. Population statistics were sources from the United States Census Bureau.
