While D.C. is one of the most amazing cities in the world (we’re not biased), it’s not exactly known for being one of the most walkable cities out there, in fact even with a car it’s still one of the hardest cities to navigate in all of North America… But according to a recent ranking of the most beautiful roads in the world by Architectural Digest, the 70th most beautiful street in the world is right here in the D.C. area!
Which D.C. area road is one of the world’s most beautiful streets?
According to Architectural Digest, the 70th most beautiful street in the world is none other than King Street in Old Town Alexandria, just about 15-20 minutes outside of the capital, right across the Potomac River.
The street is famous for its incredible historic architecture, some of which dates back to the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as its unique attractions and landmarks.
The street is a total of twenty blocks spanning from the Potomac River into the heart of Old Town Alexandria.
How to Visit King Street in Old Town Alexandria
To get to King Street in it’s actually a fairly easy route, you can get to the King Street–Old Town Metro Station in Alexandria, Virginia by taking either the Blue Line train towards Franconia-Springfield or the Yellow Line train towards Huntington.
Depending on where you hop onto one of these metro lines in D.C. it should take around 30 or so minutes to get to King Street, at which point the metro station will lead right out onto one of the most beautiful streets in the world.
Things to do on King Street
King Street is famous for its beauty, so it’s a relatively quiet road that makes for a perfect walk about a mile in distance, but the street is lined with local businesses and a few fantastic spots to stop for a bite to eat!
If you go at the right time you’ll even be able to enjoy Market Square’s weekly farmer’s market, which is an event we can’t recommend enough.
