How Washington, D.C. got named ‘Ghosting Capital of America’
Well, according to a study composed of data collected in a survey by NumberBarn, Washington, D.C. dating seen as the most prevalent ‘ghosting’ behavior in the nation.
The study found that 76% of Washingtonians had ghosted someone in the past year and the same percentage of D.C. singles had also been themselves within the last 12 months.
Not only one of the cities in America where ghosting was the most common but ghosting in D.C. also happens to be the most pervasive in the nation; on average every Washingtonian surveyed had ghosted at least five people in the last year, and been ghosted by at least 3!

How did ghosting in other cities compare to D.C.?
While Washington, D.C. led the nation in ghosting the full ‘top ten’ list ranking the cities with the worst ghosting was as follows:
- Washington, D.C. – 76.0% of respondents had ghosted someone in the last year.
- Tampa, Florida – 72.9% of respondents had ghosted someone in the last year.
- San Francisco, California – 68.1% of respondents had ghosted someone in the last year.
- Austin, Texas – 63.3% of respondents had ghosted someone in the last year.
- Las Vegas, Nevada – 60.0% of respondents had ghosted someone in the last year.
- San Diego, California – 60.0% of respondents had ghosted someone in the last year.
- Memphis, Tennesee – 59.1% of respondents had ghosted someone in the last year.
- Houston, Texas – 56.3% of respondents had ghosted someone in the last year.
- San Antonio, Texas – 56.3% of respondents had ghosted someone in the last year.
- Chicago, Illinois – 56.0% of respondents had ghosted someone in the last year.
