The city is gearing up for holiday traffic as we near New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day with some special notes about fares and traffic, so read on for updates.
NYE and NYD fare:
Good news! You can get home safely this New Year’s Eve for free! Metrorail is offering free fares for passengers after 8pm and is extending hours until 2am. No SmarTrip card will be needed.
Free fares is in part thanks to the Metro’s partnership with Miller Light and Coors Light’s Free Rides Program.
NYE and NYD schedule:
For New Year’s Day, the metro and buses will run on Sunday Schedule, with the bus timetables and metro timetables here.
Construction until the 30th:
Downtown construction might impact holiday travel as some lines will be undergoing maintenance such as the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines until the 30th. On the 31st, all stations will reopen.
If you’re still not sure what you’re doing this New Year’s Eve, there are plenty of parties, events, dinners, and concerts happening around the entire city. There’s also a few fireworks shows in the city or nearby that are great to attend since fireworks aren’t legal in D.C.
Whatever you do, we hope you have a fun and safe holiday!
