If you want to impress someone you’ve just started dating with an intimate dinner, or you want to celebrate a special occasion with your partner, and would like to create a meaningful memory over a romantic meal, this list is for you.
There is no shortage of romantic dining destinations around the District, but here are some of our favorite spots that we think are well worth a visit!
Reveler’s Hour

Owned and run by one of the founding members of D.C.’s iconic ‘Tail Up Goat’ Michelin-Starred restaurant that closed this past December, Bill Jensen, this pasta and wine bar is as charming as ever.
Here you can enjoy high-quality food in a cozy atmosphere that maintains an elevated dining feel without the sense of stuffiness you might associate with fine dining.
Ambar in Clarendon

This Michelin-recognized restaurant is known as one of the top Balkan dining destinations in the DMV area, offering patrons a chance to enjoy authentic cuisine from a culture that isn’t widely known for its food.
Additionally, Ambar hosts one of the DMV area’s most unique dining experiences with its ‘Dining-In-The-Dark‘ event being held fairly frequently.
Moon Rabbit

Recently ranked one of the best restaurants in the inaugural list of North America’s 50 best restaurants, Moon Rabbit is a modern Vietnamese restaurant located in Penn Quarter.
James Beard Award-nominated Chef Kevin Tien offers authentic dishes from his cultural background and delivers them in a modern elevated format that makes for an immediately memorable meal right in the heart of the District.
Iron Gate

Iron Gate offers great Mediterranean mezze-driven dishes, all cooked over a wood-burning hearth and rotisserie.
Cozy up in one of their three distinct dining spaces—The Side Courtyard, the Garden Patio, or the Indoor Dining Room—while sipping one of their wines for a low-key, intimate date.
Although walk-ins are usually welcomed, we recommend booking ahead of time if there’s a specific room you wish to be seated in.
1789

This restaurant, named after the year in which Georgetown University was founded, is another D.C. institution.
Built within a renovated federal house, you won’t get a more authentically D.C. dining experience than this one.
Its richly decorated interior, full of antiques and a warm fireplace make for an eclectic yet refined setting so you can cozy up in style.
The restaurant serves traditional American cuisine with a twist and adapts its seasonal menu to utilize fresh and local ingredients.
Maison Bar À Vins

Located in Adams Morgan, tucked away in an unsuspecting Victorian brownstone, Maison Bar À Vins is a classy wine bar filled with old money vibes!
It houses a wine collection that contains north of 1,000 bottles and serves up some small but highly satisfying French-inspired dishes.
The restaurant opened very recently, just last September, but it has quickly risen in the ranks of the D.C. food scene and become a local favorite.
Casamara

A menu that pulls from “Coastal-Mediterranean” cuisine, you’ll find dishes that can be traced back to the likes of Spain, France, Italy, or even Greece, whenever you dine at Casamara – located in the SIXTY DC Hotel in the Dupont Circle area.
There are so many excellent things on the menu that you could close your eyes and choose at random and still be served a satisfying meal, but if you aren’t willing to put things up to chance, we recommend any of their handmade pasta dishes or their seafood, but like we said, there’s no going wrong if you opt for the lamb skewers, roast chicken, or even one of their vegetable dishes!
Marcus DC

Home to the nominee for 2026’s James Beard Award’s ‘Emerging Chef’ category, Anthony Jones, Marcus DC has quickly developed into one of the hottest dining destinations in town.
In fact, since opening in 2025, Marcus DC has been named the most beautiful new restaurant in the nation, solidifying that this restaurant is not just a great place to eat, but a true culinary experience that you take in with all your senses.
Fish Shop

As its name would suggest, Fish Shop is a seafood-forward restaurant located in Washington, D.C.’s waterfront.
The restaurant highlights the Mid-Atlantic maritime culinary culture with local classics touched with Scottish flair (an ode to the restaurant’s sister spot in Scotland), like the ever-impressive Maryland Crab Crumpet.
Karravaan

Offering flavors of the ‘Silk Road’, this restaurant brings the spices from South and Central Asia to the table for some incredible dishes that taste just as great as they look!
The menu features iconic dishes from Persian, Indian, Turkish, and Georgian cuisines, with the aim of telling a larger story about the history of culinary techniques, trade, and ingredients throughout the region.
La’Shukran

Tucked away in an alleyway like a true culinary hidden gem, La’Shukran is a Middle Eastern eatery that has become a local hot spot for drinks and dining out.
The menu, which is best described as ‘family-style’, makes this a great spot for date night or a meal with friends.
Raw Omakase

A new omakase counter led by the expert hand of John Yi, Raw Omakase offers an incredibly exclusive dining experience for less than 20 patrons a night.
With seating for fewer than 10 people and only two seatings per session, this multi-course dining experience features dishes like masterfly prepared nigiri, perfectly prepared Japanese scallops, and even authentic Japanese desserts like honeydew sorbet with yuzu.
To cap off the experience with an exclamation point, be sure to check out the aged sake list to find a beverage that will pair well with your meal to elevate the evening.
Fiola Mare

If you’re looking for some of the best seafood with romance as a background, we recommend trying Fiola’s sister branch, Fiola Mare.
Here, you’ll try some excellent yet simple seafood dishes meant to evoke the seaside dining experience of Italian coastal restaurants.
We admit Fiola Mare is on the pricier side, but with its waterfront views, fresh seafood, and indulgent cocktails and wine, it’s the perfect spot for a date night or a special occasion!
Filomena

Filomena is known for two things: delectable, classic Italian food and its sensational decorations.
If you really want a treat, stop by near any major holiday (including Valentine’s Day) and take in the festive decor alongside a mouth-watering meal!
