D.C.’s dining scene has another major national accolade to celebrate.
Maison Bar à Vins, the French-inspired wine bar in Adams Morgan, has been named to Bon Appétit’s 2026 list of the 19 best new restaurants in the nation.
The intimate spot is the only D.C. restaurant featured on this year’s highly selective list, which spotlights some of the most exciting new places to eat across the country.
And while the name may suggest a simple wine bar, Bon Appétit makes it clear that there is much more happening inside this converted Adams Morgan row house.
Where does Maison Bar à Vins rank on Bon Appetit’s 2026 list of the best new restaurants?
Unlike a traditional “best restaurants” ranking, the publication selected 19 restaurants as an unnumbered group, meaning Maison Bar à Vins did not finish at No. 1, No. 10, or any other specific position.
Instead, the D.C. restaurant earned a place among a small collection of establishments that Bon Appétit considers the country’s standout new dining destinations for 2026.
That makes the recognition especially notable.
Rather than competing for a numbered spot, Maison Bar à Vins was selected as one of only 19 restaurants nationwide to make the cut.
Bon Appétit published its 2026 list on August 24, highlighting the restaurants that stood out most to its editors this year.
What made Maison Bar à Vins one of the best new restaurants in the nation?
According to Bon Appétit, Maison Bar à Vins is “a maximalist gem that’s more than a great wine bar.”
The publication praised the work of chef Matt Conroy and chef de cuisine Jason Chaveson, highlighting dishes including seaweed-dusted choux buns filled with cod roe and whipped cream, as well as a brioche-stuffed chicken with a creamy, herb-stained interior enriched with butter and cheese.
Bon Appétit also singled out the restaurant’s wine-forward cocktails, including an old-fashioned that uses Sauternes instead of simple syrup, and its decadent Basque cheesecake served with vin jaune and wildflower honey.
The restaurant itself describes its approach as seasonal French-inspired plates paired with a wine-first bar program, with playful, shareable dishes designed to naturally complement the bottles and cocktails on offer.
What to expect if you’re thinking about going
Maison Bar à Vins sounds like the kind of place made for settling in rather than rushing through dinner.
Located inside a three-story Adams Morgan brownstone, the restaurant describes itself as a more relaxed and spontaneous counterpart to its reservation-only sibling, Lutèce, with a space built around walk-ins, conversation, and evenings that unfold without a rigid plan.
Bon Appétit paints an especially vivid picture of the atmosphere: intimate and hushed, but still carrying a “convivial buzz“, with a front dining room, a candlelit back room, and even a zebra-print carpet adding to the maximalist personality.
In other words, expect something warm, layered, quietly dramatic and distinctly transportive—the kind of spot where you can order a bottle, linger over shareable plates, and temporarily forget you’re in the middle of the nation’s capital.
The restaurant is located at 1834 Columbia Rd NW in Adams Morgan and is open from 5 pm into the late evening Wednesday through Sunday.
