On Tuesday morning, around 10:20 am Eastern Time, all of Meta’s internal systems allegedly went down causing all of the social media site’s apps and online pages to become inaccessible. While the problem is impacting thousands of us in D.C., it appears that the outage of both Facebook and Instagram is in fact a worldwide problem, with as many as millions of users currently unable to access their social media.
In the meantime, to get an understanding of the issue and better understand what is happening, there’s been a rush of users jumping to X (formerly Twitter) to share their frustrations as well as make light of the situation.
Why is Facebook / Instagram down?
As mentioned above, it seems that an apparent crash of a Meta internal system has led to the issue leaving millions of users unable to access their social media. The problem is already confirmed to be on a global scale, with the problem expanding far past D.C. and even the U.S. to the UK, EU, and even China as well. The ‘glitch’ (as many are calling it) forced users out of their social media accounts on Facebook and Messenger and when the users attempted to log back in, they received an error message.
Currently, there are already over 43,000 posts made about the outage impacting Facebook and Instagram, and this number will continue to grow until the problem is finally resolved!
