Eagle-eyed Washingtonians took notice on their morning commute that the WMATA rolled out its Pride Month Metro trains!
On Thursday morning, June 1, the D.C. Metro kicked off Pride Month in style with its special rainbow-wrapped Metro trains. Multiple riders took to social media to share the excitement of the morning commute surprise.
“Love this!! Way to go @wmata@wmataGM!!” one rider wrote on Twitter in response to a photo of the rollout.
The themed Metro trains are covered in a rainbow of colors with hearts and peace signs, reading, “Transportation for all” and “#YourMetro” along the outside. Step onto the train, and the sides and train ceilings are decorated with more rainbows that read, “Peace • Love • Pride • Metro.”
Pride Month in D.C. is jam-packed with nonprofit events to aid the LGBTQ+ community, festive parades, marches, bar and restaurant partnerships, and highlighting local LGBTQ+ businesses. The Metro has shown its support for the community by wrapping the trains in previous years and adjusting rail and bus schedules to provide transportation during D.C. Pride events.
The special Metros will run throughout Pride Month, including through the Capital Pride Parade on Saturday, June 10.
