Delta Extends Their Middle Seat Ban Until 2021

Who likes the middle seat, anyway?

Good news, Delta Flyers, you’re chances of landing a window or aisle seat on flights just skyrocketed as the air travel company have announced that it would be extending its middle seat ban until January 2021.

Since the onset of the pandemic, flight companies have made major changes in health protocols to make air travel as safe as possible for passengers. Seeing as how the circumstances haven’t changed, Delta will continue to block middle seats until January 6, 2021.

“Medical experts, including our own partners at Emory Healthcare, agree – more distance on board makes a difference,” said Bill Lentsch, Chief Customer Experience Officer in an official press release.

“We believe that taking care of our customers and employees and restoring confidence in the safety of air travel is more important right now than filling up every seat on a plane. We’ll continue taking a thoughtful, layered approach ensuring customers know to expect the highest standard of care as they prepare for their holiday travels.”

Effectively limiting the number of passengers on the plane, Delta is granting ample space for distancing, and through October 31, Delta will limit the First Cabin to 50% capacity as well as block off an aisle of aircraft seats without middle seat sections.

Delta passengers will have to wear masks throughout the duration of flights. For those with underlying health conditions, passengers must first complete a “Clearance-To-Fly” process before purchasing tickets.

Because flying and traveling in general is still a little shaky at the moment, Delta is permitting customers to change their travel plans without fee through the end of September:

“For all new flights purchased through Sept. 30, travelers have the option to change their flight without a change fee for a year from the date of purchase.”
