President Donald Trump has revived plans for a massive new sculpture garden in Washington, D.C. that could feature 250 statues honoring prominent Americans.
The project, called the ‘National Garden of American Heroes’, has been proposed for West Potomac Park near some of the capital’s most recognizable memorials and monuments.
Trump says the new attraction would celebrate the nation’s upcoming 250th birthday in 2026 with statues of presidents, civil rights leaders, athletes, entertainers, military figures, and other historic Americans.
While the proposal has generated excitement among supporters, it is also drawing scrutiny over funding, approvals, environmental reviews, and how much of the parkland along the Potomac River could ultimately be redeveloped.
What and where would the proposed sculpture garden be?
The proposed ‘National Garden of American Heroes’ would be built in West Potomac Park, a large stretch of parkland along the Potomac River in Washington, D.C., near landmarks like the Jefferson Memorial and Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial.
According to Trump’s announcement, the space would be transformed into what he described as a “world-class masterpiece” featuring landscaped gardens and hundreds of statues representing influential Americans from a wide range of backgrounds.
The planned sculpture lineup reportedly includes founding fathers, civil rights icons, athletes, artists, religious leaders, military heroes, and entertainers.
Some of the figures reportedly under consideration include:
- Martin Luther King Jr.
- Walt Disney
- Amelia Earhart
- Elvis Presley
- Jackie Robinson
- Rosa Parks
- George Washington
Early reports suggest the garden could contain 250 life-size statues, tying directly into America’s 250th anniversary celebrations.
Some reports have also indicated broader redevelopment concepts tied to the proposal, including reflecting pools, walking paths, cafes, and other public gathering areas.
However, the proposal may still face significant hurdles before construction can fully move forward.
West Potomac Park is federally controlled land near the National Mall, meaning large-scale redevelopment projects typically require multiple layers of federal review and, potentially, congressional approval.

When could the proposed sculpture garden open?
Trump has framed the ‘National Garden of American Heroes‘ as part of the nationwide celebration for America’s 250th birthday in July 2026.
Some early portions of the project could potentially debut around those festivities if construction advances quickly enough.
Still, multiple reports indicate the full vision for the sculpture garden would likely take much longer to complete.
Questions surrounding funding, environmental concerns, legal reviews, and federal approvals could extend the timeline well beyond 2026.
