New look, who dis?
Beginning Monday, July 17, Washingtonians receiving or updating their driver’s licenses will see two new features: a fresh background design and enhanced security.
“We wanted to ensure that our D.C. credentials are one of the most secure in the nation,” D.C. Department of Motor Vehicles Director Gabriel Robinson said in a press release. “The new design features vibrant colors, cherry blossoms, the Wood Thrush bird, and the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge.”
The new licenses are a product of the Thales Group, made from 100% polycarbonate cards with a Multiple Laser Image (MLI) feature, which are more sustainable and difficult for counterfeiters to attempt to replicate.
Washingtonians will be able to apply to get or renew the new licenses in person at the DMV and it will come by mailTo obtain or renew a driver’s license residents can go in person at a DMV location (or renew online at dmv.dc.gov) and will receive the new ID via mail within 10-15 days.
There is no rush to receive the new license, as each previous license is still valid until its expiration date.
