After about 5 years in business, Outdoor Voices’ M Street store in Georgetown has permanently closed to the public.
This closure comes very shortly after Outdoor Voices announced its decision to exclusively become an online retailer. That said, D.C. is not the only city losing its in-person Outdoor Voices location; Chicago, Boston, NYC, and several other cities were also surprised to discover that their storefronts were closing.
After learning about the nationwide closures, many patrons turned to the company’s official Instagram page to express their frustrations. The account has now turned off its comments section. Other disgruntled shoppers and employees took to Reddit, with one – now former – employee disclosing that this news was “completely out of the blue.”
As for what’s in store for 3025 M Street NW, only time will tell. The space was previously home to American Apparel, which also struggled to sustain operations.
Thankfully, D.C. shoppers seeking new activewear can still avail themselves of Georgetown’s Athleta, lululemon, and Patagonia sportswear stores, to name a few.
