2026 is set to be a big year for cinema, with major movies like The Odyssey, Dune: Part Three, and Project Hail Mary set to premiere.
There is no doubt that film is having a special moment and, in particular, there has been a growing emphasis on premium film formats, like 70mm and IMAX 70mm, which cinephiles swear by.
Fortunately for Washingtonians, the District was selected as one of just 10 cities in North America to host an early screening of one of the biggest movies of the year, Project Hail Mary, in 70mm.
When & Where is D.C.’s early screening of Project Hail Mary in 70mm?
The early screening of Project Hail Mary in the rare 70mm format will be held at AMC Hoffman, located at 206 Hoffman Street in Alexandria, Virginia.
There are going to be three separate early screenings:
Each of these showings will be ahead of the Project Hail Mary’s official nationwide premiere on March 20th.
Unfortunately, though, there will not be an IMAX 70mm screening for the film in the D.C. area, only 70mm.
So while the District is one of just 10 cities showing it in 70mm, two cities will also be screening it in IMAX 70mm, and 8 more cities will be screening it early exclusively in IMAX 70mm.

There are a total of 27 theatres across 18 cities between the U.S. and Canada that have been selected to host an early screening of Project Hail Mary in the rare film format that the movie was meant to be viewed in: 70mm or IMAX 70mm.
