The Folger Shakespeare Library, which houses the biggest collection of Shakespeare’s work in the entire world, has just opened the doors to their brand new cafe, Quill and Crumb. Located in the Great Hall, Quill and Crumb is the coziest, bookish cafe to hit D.C., with the bonus of getting to explore a whole world of Shakespearean works afterward.
Quill and Crumb (the name was even crowdsourced by the Folger library!) is located in the Great Hall, a beautiful marvel designed by Paul Philippe Cret to resemble a 16th century English home’s gallery. It’s beautiful oak-paneled walls and warm wood tables make it the idyllic spot to chat, study for an exam, or get lost in a book. Their menu includes classic coffee drinks, pastries, salads, and sandwiches.
Afterward, you have the option to explore the beautiful Folger Shakespeare Library, where Shakespeare’s work is easily accessible to anyone who is curious to learn. The Folger actively works to preserve Shakespeare’s work while encouraging discovery across disciplines and levels.
They also put on events like their Christmas Eve Mass and Emily Dickinson reading group, a tribute to the late author.
If you go from now until January 5th 2025, there’s a Folger Frost Fair that features history pop-ups where speakers will give talks on Folger’s history and architecture, photo opportunities, and a book nook which is a cozy reading spot near Crumb and Quill.
As always, you can find more information at their website.
