Washington, D.C. is about to get a taste of the American West this summer.
As part of the nationwide Freedom 250 celebration honoring America’s 250th anniversary, organizers are bringing Rodeo 250: The Evolution of the American Cowboy to the National Mall.
The attraction will feature daily live performances, horsemanship demonstrations, western storytelling, music, trick riding, charro traditions, and other showcases highlighting the history and culture of the American cowboy.
Set against the backdrop of the nation’s most iconic monuments, the event is expected to be one of the most unique attractions featured during the weeks-long Great American State Fair on the National Mall.
Why is a rodeo coming to the National Mall?
Rodeo 250 is part of the Great American State Fair, a major Freedom 250 attraction transforming the National Mall into a large-scale celebration of American history, culture, innovation, and traditions.
The fair will feature exhibits from all 50 states and six U.S. territories, along with live entertainment, military displays, cultural programming, and family-friendly activities.
According to organizers, Rodeo 250 is designed as a living historical experience rather than a traditional rodeo competition.
Visitors will be taken through the evolution of the American cowboy, from Spanish vaquero traditions and cattle drives to Wild West performers, charros, trick riders, and modern professional rodeo athletes.
The production is being presented by Cervi Rodeo Company, one of the best-known names in professional rodeo, and will feature specialty performers, horsemen, trick riders, ropers, announcers, and western entertainers from across the country.
Freedom 250 organizers say the showcase is intended to celebrate the values often associated with the cowboy tradition, including hard work, resilience, courage, integrity, and perseverance.
When is the rodeo happening?
Rodeo 250 will run daily from June 25th through July 10th, 2026, at the American Heartland Arena located within the Great American State Fair on the National Mall.
Showtimes will vary depending on the day of the week:
- Sunday through Wednesday: 4 pm
- Thursday through Saturday: 7 pm
- Special July 4 performance: 3 pm
The rodeo is one of hundreds of attractions planned during the Great American State Fair, which will operate daily from June 25 through July 10 and feature themed programming, exhibits, concerts, screenings, flyovers, and other special events.

Organizers say advance registration is encouraged, though walk-up visitors will also be welcome.
