Iron Chef Marcus Samuelsson, owner of the famed New York and Miami restaurants, Red Rooster, has just opened a new rooftop bar in DC, just in time for patio season!
If you’re not familiar, Marcus Samuelsson is an Ethiopian-born, Swedish-American chef whose claim to fame came from his longstanding relationship with the Food Network as a judge on Chopped and Top Chef and an Iron Chef on the rebooted Netflix show. If you’re a fan of high-profile restaurants, he’s also the chef behind the popular New York restaurant, Red Rooster Harlem and the Miami version, Red Rooster Overtown, as well as other restaurants like Hav & Mar and Metropolis. He’s also the youngest person to receive a three-star review from The New York Times and has won eight James Beard Foundation Awards!
Now, DC is getting its first restaurant, Sly, in NoMa’s Morrow Hotel, and it’s a rooftop concept!
They have small bites and cocktails, of course, but they also have breakfast and some sweet treats. The dishes have a mix of global influences, from their shishito peppers and miso-spiced cauliflower steak, to American classics like mac and cheese and farmer’s salad. Not to mention the Sly Chicken Sandwich that plays homage to a DC-favorite, Mambo sauce.
The cocktails are fairly reasonable in price and are expertly made from the City Royale with Bourbon, Amaretto, Campari, Lemon and the Golden Spritz with Tej “Honey Wine,” Vodka, Lemon, Bubbles. Don’t forget to come for Happy Hour from 4-7pm Monday Monday-Friday for some deals!
