Christmas trees are going up, Thanksgiving meals are planned, and now D.C. rooftops are joining the holiday fun by transforming into their festive winterized versions.
And the roof atop Union Market, Hi-Lawn, will have what is perhaps one of the most unique features this year — a 50-foot, heated dome with a special “Snowglow” light show experience. The limited-time pop-up was inspired by a European winter getaway and features both a scenic light experience along with special themed cocktails and bites, and of course, an especially cozy atmosphere.
The spherical dome
The Dome at Hi-Lawn will seat 60 people including little alcoves for intimate dining experiences, and of course will be heated to keep out the winter chill. Guests will be completely transported to a lush winter forest thanks to greenery, tartan-style accessories, and a photo-ready ski lift backdrop. And though the most fantastical views are within the dome, it also makes for a stunning visual from afar, appearing like a snow globe perched above the market with snow falling within (thanks to projections).
The light show
Within The Dome there will of course be the magical immersive light show, aptly named “Snowglow.” The 90-minute visual spectacle, projecting 360 degrees around the dome, displays everything from the green and blue of the Northern Lights to snow-covered mountains to starry night skies to cozy fire flames.
Food & drink
As for the menu — it’s just as on-point. Alpine-inspired, guests can enjoy fondue raclette, lobster bisque, smørrebrød, filet-for-two, and sweet fondue and homemade truffles for dessert, all coming from acclaimed chef Nathan Beauchamp.
For cocktails, expect tableside martinis, walnut Manhattans, festive Grasshoppers, and hot drinks like spiked hot coco and a honey schnapps-spiked tea tonic.
Pricing, tickets and opening dates
The globe will open to the public this December, though they haven’t revealed an exact date yet. However, tickets will go on sale this Friday, November 15. $35/person will guarantee you entry, a dining pod, the 90-minute visual light show, and a “welcome liquid amuse.” Food and drink are an additional cost.
