With all the recent news about Michelin’s 2026 dining guide announcement and its recent demotion of the District’s sole 3-star restaurant down to a 2-star, it’s worth remembering that one of the District’s top restaurants, Tail Up Goat, which has maintained a Michelin star since 2017, is set to shutter its doors for the final time later this year.
The iconic restaurant announced back in April of this year that after 10 years of serving Washingtonians from their Adams Morgan location, it would be closing one their lease expires in December.
Why is Tail Up Goat closing?
According to an interview with Axios earlier this year, owners Jill Tyler, chef Jon Sybert, and Bill Jensen all came to a consensus that the story Tail Up Goat had reached its final chapter after being faced with post-COVID economic difficulties and rising costs.
According to the owners, there is no plan to reopen in the future, so if you haven’t had the chance to experience this place before, you are going to want to make a reservation now, before it’s too late.

When is it closing?
The final service date is set to take place on December 20th, which means that Washingtonians have until then to eat at this spot before it closes for good.
If you are one of the many who haven’t signed up for Tail Up Goat’s famous monthly ‘Wine Drop’ and you’re interested in signing up for their final shipment of selected wines, you can sign up by Thursday, December 11th!
You can opt for pick-up or, if your address is in D.C. proper, have the wines delivered right to your door.

Other restaurants from the Tail Up Goat team
While the ownership trio behind Tail Up Goat reportedly has no plans to reopen, their exciting pasta and wine bar called Reveler’s Hour is right around the block, and plans to continue operating as usual.
At Reveler’s Hour, you can either order off the menu or opt for a three-course menu, but it’s the restaurant’s preference that all guests at the table order in the same format to ensure a consistent dining experience for each guest; so ideally, everyone either orders a la carte or selects the three-course dinner menu.
