D.C. is more than the main stage for national and international politics. It’s a cultural hub, historical mainstay, art haven, and a place hundreds of thousands of people call home. With nonstop tourism and an endless list of places to explore and things to do, the question had to be asked: what is one thing all Washingtonians should do at least once? To get to the bottom of it, Secret D.C. asked our fellow Washingtonians for input on social media—and they didn’t disappoint!
Here’s the definitive (and sometimes, funny) list:
1. Check out O Street Mansion.
2. Go to the top of the Washington Monument.
3. Walk through the Arboretum in spring or autumn.
4. “Be ready to fight for your life on U St. or Adams Morgan.”
5. Visit the Library of Congress.

6. Go dancing.
7. Visit the many different embassies (especially during Passport D.C.).
8. Have a picnic and watch the sunset at Gravelly Point.
9. Explore the parks and monuments by bike.
10. “Ice skate” on the reflecting pool. (FYI: National Park Service doesn’t allow this.)
