A recent report on the “top cities for creatives” regards Washington D.C. and the Arlington/Alexandria areas as the best in the country. Woah!
Data experts examined all 50 states and their respective leading creative cities. D.C. outranked the artist’s world of Los Angeles and the dreamer’s world of NYC. The experts at Crucial.com took into account not only the number of creatives but the live vacancies in the region and the chances of securing a role in that city depending on the population.
So not only is D.C. a top creative city, but it’s also great if you’re in the job market for any of the following roles:
- Special Effects (SFX) Artist
- Graphic Designer
- Producer
- Director
- Music Director
- Composer
- Musician
- Singer
- Writer
- Photographer
- Video Games Developer
- Video Editor
The analysts gathered data on the number of Washingtonians employed in a creative role and the count of live vacancies on Indeed at the start of March 2023 for the roles listed above. This does not include freelance or independent work like entrepreneurship.
Washington, D.C. — plus Arlington and Alexandria, Va. — has the best overall balance of “current creative workers” and “available creative jobs.”
D.C. offers the best of both worlds-a chance to work in a rich creative community and opportunties to secure a new role! The study further broke down the top cities by job type and D.C. once again was at the top for the “video editing” category. Given all of the documentaries that take place here, we’re not surprised!
After D.C. as the top city to find a creative job came:
- Washington D.C.
- Atlanta
- Miami
- New York City
- San Francisco
- Los Angelos
- Chicago
- Boston
- Seattle
- Orlando
