What’s the opposite of a recession indicator? The fact that according to WalletHub, 82% of Americans are planning to go on a vacation this summer, with 42% expecting to go on multiple vacations.
The good news is that Washingtonians may not have to travel this summer if they don’t want to because the city ranked pretty high for the best summer destination in the U.S. Let’s see how we were ranked.
For this survey, WalletHub specifically focused on cheapness as the defining factor. They analyzed 100 big American cities, ranking them against 41 key indicators like flight time, flight cost, and hotel prices, across six categories: 1) Travel Costs & Hassles, 2) Local Costs, 3) Attractions, 4) Weather, 5) Activities and 6) Safety.
We were excited to see D.C. as number three, ranked this way for its accessibility from other major cities, zero connecting flights, and affordable restaurants that “are rated at least 4.5 stars out of 5 on Yelp.” It also has a high number of attractions from museums to pools, parks, and tennis courts. It’s also safe, making it a great travel destination for all ages.
It was outranked by Orlando, Florida, ranked high for its amusement parks, and Atlanta, a major city with cheaper flights and plenty of attractions. To see a more in-depth look at their methodology, they’ve written about it here.
For fans and visitors alike, Washington D.C. has a ton of attractions to beat the heat and enjoy those warm summer nights, from rooftop bars to some of the best American museums in the country.
