What is “We Call It Tango”?
“We Call It Tango” transports audiences to 1950s Palermo to follow the story of Amelia, a brilliant dancer who dares to venture into the vibrant world of tango. Through stunning performances of 13 famous tangos, dancers wearing magnificent exchange abrazos (intense embraces) and seductive glances as they glide across the stage to the moving melodies of a bandoneon and piano.

There’s something truly hypnotic about the tango. It’s not just a dance, but a dynamic musical experience that conveys emotions that words often struggle to express. Audiences are left spellbound by the intimacy and intensity of the performers on stage as they express feelings of love and loss through movements like the amague (kicking one foot across the other) and the lustrada (the action of rubbing your foot up and down your partner’s leg).
On the night, authentic tango songs including Astor Piazzolla’s “Adiós Nonino” and Mariano Mores’ “Taquito Militar” will be performed by a talented pianist alongside a traditional bandoneon player. Spread out across three acts, these luminous tango performances celebrate the history, charm and intensity of an art form that has been enchanting audiences for over 160 years.
