Cinco de Mayo is nearly upon us so that means some of DC’s best Mexican restaurants will be hosting parties and offering discounts, and discounts are always welcome. Since Cinco de Mayo falls on a Monday this year, we’ve also included some events that are happening that night as well. We’ve tried to include different price points because we get it, it’s expensive to party now, but we hope that you’re able to find something that suits your mood if you’re looking.
A quick history lesson! Don’t worry, it’s short. Remember, Cinco de Mayo is more than a party holiday. It’s a day of remembrance and celebration for the day Mexico overcame a battle with the French Army at the Battle of Puebla in 1862 that marked Mexico’s victory against not only France, but Spain 50 years prior. It’s not Mexican Independence Day, which falls on September 16th, but a day to celebrate an important victory to Mexican history.
With that being said, here’s Secret DC’s guide to celebrating Cinco de Mayo this weekend and Monday.
