We’ve found a unique activity for anyone who wanted to be a marine biologist when they were a kid, staying overnight at an actual aquarium!
Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center, about a 3 and a half hour drive from D.C., is hosting an adults-only sleepover on Saturday, June 21st. Doors open at 7 pm, so make sure you’re on time because doors lock after check-in since it’s an after-hours event. Parking is free as well! The event will go until the next day at 8:30 am, where regular admission hours will start at 9 am.
A few important notes:
- Electricity ports are limited so come with a fully charged phone or email them in advance if you need electricity for a CPAP machine
- No dinner will be provided but there will be small snacks. They will have a biscuit sandwich for breakfast though!
- There’s an open bar! Drinks and food are included in the price of admission
- Bring your own sleepwear, sleeping bag, toiletries, etc.
We don’t want to give away too much, but besides just sleeping, you’ll be able to walk around the aquarium after-hours, enjoy some late-night surprises, and have animal encounters! The sleeping arrangements will be among the different tanks, like the shark tank, turtle area, and among the different aquariums like the Mediterranean and Red Sea Aquariums.
Prices for members are $120 and $130 for non-members and like we mentioned, drinks and breakfast are included in the price of the ticket.
