The Washington Commanders have offered their first look inside the seating bowl of the team’s future stadium in Washington, D.C.
The newly released renderings show a dramatically different experience from the franchise’s current home, with the seating bowl designed as one continuous sweep around the field.
The design also introduces a dedicated “Wall of Fans”, a series of massive score boards(including a wraparound video board reminiscent of Madrid’s Bernabéu stadium where the Commanders played last year), and a layout specifically engineered to make the new stadium louder and more immersive.
Construction is expected to begin in spring 2027, with the new stadium targeted for completion in spring 2030.

Everything we know about the seating bowl at the new Commanders Stadium
The first interior renderings provide a much clearer picture of what fans can expect when the Commanders eventually return to Washington, D.C.
The centerpiece is a single, continuous seating bowl that rises from field level to the upper deck. Rather than separating portions of the stadium with stacked premium seating levels, the design is intended to create a more unified environment throughout the venue.
According to the Commanders, the bowl will feature:
- A continuous seating sweep from the field to the upper deck
- Minimal overhangs to preserve sightlines and help keep crowd noise within the bowl
- Steeper seating angles designed to bring spectators closer to the action
- An expanded lower bowl
- A first row elevated above the playing surface for unobstructed views
- A dedicated “Wall of Fans” section
- A connected system of large digital videoboards
- A roof designed to help capture and direct crowd noise back toward the field

A seating bowl designed to get loud
One of the clearest themes in the new design is crowd noise.
The Commanders and HKS say the seating angles, unified bowl and roof will work together to capture sound inside the stadium and push it back toward the field.
The team has specifically described the planned venue as one that could produce one of the loudest environments in the NFL, while drawing inspiration from the atmosphere that made RFK Stadium famous among Washington fans.
That RFK influence is particularly apparent in the decision to make the seating bowl feel like one connected mass rather than a collection of separate sections.
What is the “Wall of Fans”?
Another standout feature will be the Wall of Fans, a dedicated section intended for some of the franchise’s most passionate supporters.
The Commanders describe it as a continuous and imposing mass of fans designed to contribute to the stadium’s home-field advantage.
Notably, the team says the section will include affordable, fan-friendly seating, potentially giving more fans an opportunity to sit in one of the most visually distinctive parts of the new stadium.

The videoboards will wrap around the bowl
The new stadium will also feature an interconnected digital display system rather than simply relying on conventional individual video screens.
The design includes large sideline videoboards, paired end-zone boards and a ‘halo display’ connecting the various elements.
Together, the screens are intended to create a continuous visual experience around the seating bowl, allowing game content and entertainment to flow throughout the stadium.
The Commanders say the system will deliver a more immersive viewing experience while adding to the overall energy inside the venue.

How many fans will the new stadium hold?
There has been some variation in the capacity figures released during the stadium’s development.
The Commanders’ initial conceptual renderings released in January described a venue capable of accommodating 70,000-plus people.
However, the team’s most recent construction announcement in August described the planned enclosed stadium as an approximately 65,000-seat facility.
So, for now, approximately 65,000 seats is the latest specific capacity figure released by the Commanders, while the earlier conceptual materials referenced a potential capacity of more than 70,000.
A new stadium inspired by RFK
While the technology is distinctly modern, the design is intentionally connected to Washington’s football history.
The Commanders say the new bowl was inspired by the iconic RFK Stadium atmosphere, with HKS designing it from the inside out around the question of how to make every fan feel like part of the game.
The broader stadium project is expected to transform the former RFK site into a new sports and entertainment destination, with construction anticipated to begin in spring 2027 and completion targeted for spring 2030.
