Washingtonians craving an affordable getaway can take advantage of the Amtrak early booking discount. This “early-bird” deal is not about taking the 5 AM train (thankfully) nor the latest “night-owl” train but simply requires trips to be booked at least 14 days in advance. The earlier you book, the more you save!
Right now, fares between D.C. and Manhattan are as low as just $31 with the Amtrak early booking discount. The deal applies to Northeast travel operating between Washington D.C. and select stations. If booking Amtrak’s Northeast regional train, sample fares to and from Washington D.C. are:
- Manhattan $31
- Boston $36
- Richmond $12
- Philadelphia $19
The fares above apply to trips booked 21 days in advance for Amtrak trains. Savings are calculated to be upwards of 50%! If you book only 14 days in advance, you’ll also benefit from some early-bird savings of around 30% reduced ticket costs.
Acela early-bird savings
The early booking discount also applies to Acela trains whose fares are naturally higher than the regular Amtrak due to increased speeds, comfort and amenities like reserved seating. However, you can still score a major steal on Acela tickets when booked at least 14 days in advance! These are some sample fares when traveling to and from Washington D.C.:
- Manhattan $71
- Boston $74
- Philadelphia $50
The deal is currently running indefinitely, but as noted Northeast Regional trips must be booked 21 days in advance and Acela trips at least 14 days in advance so get rolling and book that trip!
