After years of planning and consideration, Amtrak has officially announced the launch date for its highly anticipated NextGen Acela train, which will be the fastest ever passenger train in American history.
The train route will offer travelers an express option along the route between Washington, D.C., New York City, and Boston starting on August 28th!
The future of American train-sportation
Admittedly, this train won’t drastically revolutionize travel, after all, it is following the same Northeast Corridor train route that has been in place for quite some time; however, it could be one of the first dominoes to fall as train travel in the United States makes a resurgence.
Not only is the new NextGen Acela going to be the fastest train in the United States, reaching speeds of up to 160 mph, but it will also be comfortable.
The new trains feature:
- Ergonomic seating
- Panoramic views
- Personal power outlets & USB ports at each seat
- High-quality food & drink service
- Free 5G WiFi
Amtrak’s new fleet will feature 28 NextGen Acela trains, which are expected to be rolled out one by one between now and 2027.

How to book a seat on Amtrak’s NextGen Acela
Getting your Amtrak tickets for a seat on the NextGen Acela is as easy as it has ever been, with 27% more seating capacity and extended service over the weekdays and weekends!
Passengers can reserve seats and book trips on the Amtrak app, website, or even directly at the station kiosks – whichever is the most convenient.
In terms of booking specifically on Amtrak’s NextGen Acela, passengers will have to be patient as Amtrak plans to share more information on tickets as the initial launch date approaches later this month.

Amtrak’s preparation for the future
The NextGen Acela is part of Amtrak’s broader goal to modernize both its fleet of passenger trains and its routes!
- The new Amtrak Airo Trains are set to debut on the Amtrak Cascades, Northeast Regional, and East Coast routes.
- Increased energy efficiency along routes that ultimately reduce ticket costs, resulting in routes like NYC to Montreal for just $72.
- Upgrades to passenger experience, including renovated coaches, dining cars, sleepers, and even sightseeing lounges featuring modernized interiors.
