Barboursville Vineyards, located in Barboursville, Virginia, might just be one of the most overlooked weekend destinations near the D.C. area.
Why is Barboursville worth a visit?
The small town of Barboursville is loaded with charm that can only be found in Virginia’s best wine country!
The views around town are reminiscent of the Italian countryside, with lush rolling hills of the Blue Ridge covered with grape vines as far as the eye can see.
If you plan to visit for the weekend, we’d also highly recommend a visit to the nearby Gordonsville, which is just a few minutes down the road, but has a lovely main street area lined with cute boutiques and excellent local restaurants.

Tour the historic ruins of the estate that Thomas Jefferson designed for his close friend, the Governor of Virginia, James Barbour. The mansion was designed to be similar to Jefferson’s Monticello estate, and was completed in 1821, but was destroyed by a fire on Christmas Day in 1884.
