Tickets are now on sale for Boo at the Zoo, the Smithsonian’s National Zoo’s family-friendly Halloween celebration.
The after-hours event will bring three nights of trick-or-treating, costumes, festive entertainment and special access to several animal exhibits this October.
Families can fill a free souvenir goodie bag with treats, dance with the kids and snap photos in a new pumpkin patch.
When and where is Boo at the Zoo taking place?
Boo at the Zoo will take place October 16th through October 18th, 2026, throughout the Smithsonian’s National Zoo in Washington, DC.
The event runs from 6 pm to 8:30 pm each night, with the last entry at 8 pm. Zoo members get an extra hour of Halloween fun, with exclusive early entry beginning at 5 pm.
The family-friendly event is held at 3001 Connecticut Ave. NW and is separate from regular daytime Zoo admission.
What to expect at Boo at the Zoo this Halloween
Boo at the Zoo transforms the National Zoo into a Halloween adventure with treat stations, festive decor and special after-hours experiences for the whole family. Guests are encouraged to come in costume and can collect sweets, snacks and other surprises in a free souvenir goodie bag.

- Trick-or-treating at treat stations throughout the Zoo
- After-hours animal viewing
- A kids dance party
- Photos in the NEW pumpkin patch
- Festive skeleton scenes and Halloween decor
- Special access to the Small Mammal House
- Special access to the Elephant Community Center
- Special access to the Reptile Discovery Center
- Rides on the Conservation Carousel for an additional fee
- Rides aboard the National Zoo Choo Choo for an additional fee
While costumes are encouraged for visitors of all ages, adults cannot wear full-faced masks.
The Zoo also notes that Boo at the Zoo is not primarily an animal event, although the special after-hours access to three animal facilities gives families even more to explore during the evening.
How much are tickets for Boo at the Zoo?
General admission tickets cost $35 per person, while National Zoo members receive a 15% discount. Adults and children over the age of 2 need their own ticket to attend.
Parking is sold separately and costs $30 when purchased in advance or $40 on the day of the event.
The Zoo recommends purchasing a parking pass online ahead of time due to the event’s popularity.
If you’re planning to bring the whole family, it may be worth securing tickets early for one of the three Halloween nights.
