With Pride Month slowly approaching, we are reminded of the fight for social justice of the queer community, which started with the Stonewall Riots and has now become an international movement. As Capital Pride warms up the engine for this year’s Pride season, Candlelight is taking over DC with an intimate concert dedicated to queer music icons at Miracle Theatre.
On Wednesday 14 June, we celebrate those that have inspired us, entertained us with their eternal melodies and been at the frontlines advocating for LGBTQIA+ rights. With an evening of awe-inspiring musical performances by Kennedy String Quartet, get ready to experience Pride like never before under the warm glow of hundreds of candles.
They are topping charts with fun and at times, deeply personal songs, that soon turn into queer anthems. They are vocal LGBTQIA+ advocates that remind us to be unapologetically ourselves. Musicians and artists like Elton John, Janelle Monae, Brandi Carlisle and Kim Petras, are not only world-renowned superstars, but they’re also the needed representation for fans and audiences across the world.
Join in on the celebration this Pride Month and hear “Unholy”, “You Song”, “Pynk”, “The Story”, and many more at DC’s Miracle Theatre. There are two performances scheduled, one at 6:30pm and the other at 9pm, so choose whichever suits you best, and allow yourself to be enchanted by this one-of-a-kind musical experience.
Candlelight at Miracle Theatre
The charming Miracle Theatre is the oldest theatre in Washington, DC. Situated in Capitol Hill, in the historic Barracks Row neighborhood. It was first a vaudeville theatre, then in 1962, it turned into a church. Today, it’s a second-run movie theater and concert venue that hosts live musical performances across genres, including breathtaking and intimate Candlelight concerts. As the musicians of the Kennedy String Quartet take to the stage, the venue will be flooded by a sea of flickering candles, that’ll make for an evening you’re not likely to forget any time soon.
On Wednesday 14 June, yes we’ll wear pink, but we’ll also listen to chart-topping hits and iconic compositions of queer artists. Take a break from the parades, protests and parties, and celebrate Pride with Candlelight at the historic Miracle Theatre. Grab your friends or your loved ones and enjoy the soothing sounds of some of your favorite songs under the gentle glow of candlelight.
Note: For the safety of our audience, all of the candlelight will be provided through flameless candles.
