If you’ve seen the recent commercials promoting the upcoming movie ‘Captain America: Brave New World’, it would be hard to miss D.C.’s cherry blossoms in peak bloom given the amount of screen time they got – which seemed like over half the commercial!
However, while Washingtonians are accustomed to the beauty these blooms bring every year, the pink petals seemed to shock audiences to such an extent they took to social media to accuse Marvel of using CGI to create the cherry blossoms used in the scene…
However, it turns out that those blooms were real!
Filming for Captain America: Brave New World occurred between March and June 2023.
While most of the filming took place in Atlanta, some shots were also done “on-site” right here in the District!

Where was the new ‘Captain America’ movie filmed in Washington, D.C.?
While the full scope of the filming done in Washington, D.C. is not entirely clear (yet) as the movie has not been released, we can certainly speculate based on what we know from the trailers!
- The White House
By filming at The White House we are not referring to any of the action scenes or indoor shots, we’re referring simply to the aerial footage showing the White House and its surroundings.
All scenes featuring interactions at the White House were more than likely done at a film studio in Atlanta.
- Hains Point
While this is an educated guess based on the footage featured in the trailer launched in November, it seems almost certain that the fight scene featured between the ‘Red Hulk’ and Captain America takes place here along the Cherry Blossom trees in peak bloom.

What did Twitter (X) have to say about D.C.’s cherry blossoms?
Well, following the release of a new trailer back in November for the upcoming Captain America movie, X users were quick to criticize the apparent use of CGI that many perceived as sloppy or poorly executed.
Of all things, many users called out the cherry blossoms featured in the trailer as being CGI… but flash forward to the ‘First Look’ of the film’s behind-the-scenes Featurette published last week, and it turns out that those cherry blossoms were very very real!
