If you live in or frequent Adams Morgan, you’ve probably wondered about the vacant building at the corner of 18th Street and Florida Avenue. Tucked between The Blaguard and El Tamarindo, 2001 18th St NW is prime real estate. Beyond its location, the space boasts multiple levels and an open-air rooftop.
Like many, we’ve been waiting to see it reimagined. Now, a new chapter unfolds as CARLA, a walk-in-only cocktail destination, takes up residence.

Affordable cocktails and 2000s nostalgia await
After sitting vacant for over a year, the building will soon buzz with live music, happy hour chatter, and late-night DJ sets. CARLA is a nod to the early 2000s, inspired by the neighborhood’s international character and rich nightlife history.
Affordability and simplicity are at the heart of the concept, with the most expensive cocktails priced at $13 (a major win in today’s economy). Other offerings run as low as $11 for all-day spritzes and $10 for happy hour specials.

Quality, however, is not compromised. CARLA is brought to life by longtime Adams Morgan residents and hospitality partners Bill Thomas and John Roberts. Thomas, owner of neighboring Jack Rose, has earned international acclaim for his spirit collection there. CARLA’s selection of libations is smaller, but each has been carefully chosen to create thoughtful, classic cocktails.
Shareable plates complement each sip, ranging from roasted poblano croquetas to Dijon-marinated lamb chops.
CARLA will officially open on Thursday, September, 24, at 2001 18th St NW. The space does not accept reservations, so simply walk in and enjoy.
