Born in 2017 Astoria, Chip City started as a “cookie war” between two friends. The “battle” came to a standstill as they realized they both make incredibly delicious cookies that friends and neighbors couldn’t get enough of.
The cult-favorite cookie lab already has nearly 20 stores in the NYC/New Jersey area and is taking on a major east coast expansion. By the end of 2023, Chip City will have opened over 40 new stores across the East Coast with a $10 million investment from Enlightened Hospitality, the group spearheaded by the founder of Shake Shack.
Chip City will welcome 2 new stores to the area including one in Arlington, VA, and a second location in Bethesda, MD.
Chip City cookies
You might already be giddy if you’ve had Chip City in New York or through their nationwide shipping which launched during the pandemic. On top of being massive and chunky, Chip City’s secret sauce is their magical fillings. Most Chip City cookies are stuffed with a sublime ooze in the form of milk chocolate ganache, dulce de leche, blueberry cheesecake whip, strawberry jam, or whatever concoction they whip up that season.
They also have a set menu of classic cookies like chocolate chip, peanut butter, or double chocolate. Bakeries rotate through 40 flavors annually, with about 18 on the menu each month.
Welcoming Chip City to the DMV
“We are looking forward to entering Virginia,” said Chip City founder and CEO Peter Phillips. “This new location is another incredible step forward for the brand and the business mission we have—to make communities smile through the quality of our products and to make our employees feel purpose in their communities.”
Washingtonians will now be able to get their hands on the deliciously gooey cookies in store or via local Uber Eats delivery. The company also notes it hopes to open in D.C. this year as well. A D.C. location has not been formally announced yet.
