Christmas is here, and if you’re anything like us and tend to procrastinate, there are probably still a few things that need to be done ahead of the holiday!
So, just to make sure you don’t get caught in a sticky situation, whether it be a last-minute gift that needs to be purchased for someone that slipped your mind, or if you simply need to pick up some snacks or drinks on your way to a Christmas party, here’s a short list of the closing hours of some notable shops around the District on Christmas Day!
Big box stores
Target
All Target locations will be closed on Christmas Day.
Walmart
All Walmart locations will be closed on Christmas Day.
Drug Stores
CVS
While the hours are subject to change, the business hours for most CVS locations around the District for Christmas Day are 10 am to 8 pm; the pharmacy windows will be closed.
It’s worth noting that the 24-hour CVS locations will be open throughout Christmas Day if you are in a pinch, but the pharmacy will be closed.
Walgreens
Most Walgreens locations will be open on Christmas Day from 8 am to 5 pm, but 24-hour locations should be open as usual throughout the day.
Pharmacy hours on Christmas Day will vary by location, with the majority of Walgreens Pharmacies being closed on Christmas.
If you do need to visit the pharmacy for whatever reason, be sure to check the pharmacy’s hours online or call to check before you go.
Grocery Stores
Whole Foods
On Christmas Day, all Whole Foods locations will be completely closed.
Trader Joe’s
All Trader Joe’s locations will be closed on Christmas Day.
Safeway
Safeway locations around the District will be open from 8 am to 4 pm on Christmas Day.
Giant Food
Giant locations around the District will be open from 8 am to 5 pm on Christmas Day.
Fast food
McDonald’s
We don’t judge, and we also know that when you’ve got a Mac-Attack and the cravings hit, sometimes a trip to McDonald’s just can’t be avoided.
While the exact hours of McDonald’s around the District on Christmas Day will vary across the many locations, the locations will largely be open from 5 am until 11:00 pm, but the exact closing time may vary for each location. Locations that are open 24-hours should be open as usual.
Starbucks
The business hours for Starbucks around the District may vary by location, but most locations will be open between 6 am and 5 pm.
To avoid any issues, we highly recommend you check the hours online of the Starbucks location you plan to visit and potentially even call to ensure they are open.
