It seemed like just a few weeks ago, a study was released that confirmed Washington, D.C. was one of the best cities for young professionals in the country, and now real estate experts are saying the District is one of the best places for young adults to live in the country!
The list of cities, which was compiled by the popular magazine Travel+Leisure, focused on a few similar factors that the study conducted by Niche used earlier this year, but also a few unique ones as well:

What makes Washington, D.C. one of the best places to live for young adults in America?
According to Travel+Leisure, several factors stood out to make it one of the nation’s best places to live for young adults.
Here are a few that were highlighted:
- Compared to other major East Coast cities, like New York, the cost of living is not nearly as high. The District’s cost of living was measured to 39% above the national average, whereas NYC’s was 132% above the average.
- Given today’s youth being increasingly involved with political and non-profit institutions, the District is the sole destination for young adults hoping to turn their passion for activism into a career.
- Several neighborhoods around the District were noted to resonate with younger crowds: Golden Triangle, Mount Vernon Square, Downtown D.C., Chinatown, and Logan Circle/Shaw.
- An easily accessible public transit system that makes navigating the city easy without having to rely on a car.
