Considering the incredible year that the food scene in Washington D.C. has had, including two D.C. restaurants earning their first Michelin stars, and a D.C. restaurant being on Michelin’s shortlist for most anticipated restaurants of 2024. It’s little wonder that the world has started to take notice!
What is the Conde Nast Traveler’s “Best Places To Go” list?
Well, the Conde Nast Traveler brand falls under the larger media conglomerate of Conde Nest, which owns and operates several notable brands like Vogue, GQ, Vanity Fair, and The New York, amongst many others, which should denote the global scale of this travel guide and the value behind D.C.’s inclusion on this list. Specifically, Conde Nast Traveler (CNTraveler) is a global guide that considers a wide range of factors when considering destination rankings and travel suggestions, and its annual list of “Best Places to Go in North America & the Caribbean” is no exception. This upcoming year, D.C. has earned its way onto its list of best places to go not only because it is an exciting and interesting destination but also because of the transformation its culinary scene underwent in the last year.
The list is not necessarily in any prioritized rank in terms of which places are better than others, but rather just an accumulated list of the best places across all of North America and the Caribbean that Conde Nast Traveler considers to be a special and unique up-and-coming scene that has yet to have a light shined on it! Other destinations on the list were some unexpected cities and regions that have developed a lot over the years, such as Detroit or “Upstate” New York, both of which have developed significantly over the past few years in unique ways.
What does this rating mean for Washington D.C.?
For better or for worse, Washingtonians should expect an influx of tourists heading to D.C. this upcoming year to explore the District’s new culinary scene. While this may be good for the overall growth of D.C.’s restaurant scene as it continues to develop, you can expect it to be particularly hard to confirm reservations at notable restaurants this upcoming year!
