
The speed cameras around the D.C. Metropolitan Area are something that every resident of the area
For better or worse, every driving resident of the D.C. Metropolitan Area likely has had some interaction with the speed cameras around the District.
While the speed cameras around the District are more often than not feel like our greatest enemy, they are a necessary evil that have been proven to reduce dangerous driving and minimize both the number and the severity of accidents around the D.C. Area.
D.C. Area’s new speed camera locations
The new speed cameras are not going to be located inside the District, but will rather be in the greater D.C. Area.
The 3 new cameras can be found at the following locations:
- King Street, between Quaker Lane and Scroggins Road
- Braddock Road, between Marlee Way and Marlboro Drive
- North Beauregard Street, between North Morgan Street and Roanoke Avenue

Why are these new speed cameras being added?
The new speed cameras coming to Alexandria are part of their ongoing effort to mitigate traffic accidents in the city.
In this case, each of the three new speed cameras being added are part of Alexandria’s ‘School Zone Speed Camera Safety Program’, which ensures that drivers are complying with speed laws as they drive through school zones.
Where are the speed limit changes taking place?
The speed limit changes from 35 mph to 25 mph at the following locations:
- South Pickett Street (Duke Street to Edsall Road)
- Eisenhower Avenue (South Van Dorn Street to Telegraph Road)
When are these speed limit changes going to take effect?
An exact date has yet to be published at the time of writing this article as to when the speed limit changes will go into effect, but they are expected to be implemented in April 2025.
Which means that they will be activated any time from the coming days to within the next few weeks.
