With significant housing growth in and around NoMa, it comes as no surprise that the hospitality industry is also booming in and around the area. New faces like Bar Betsie and La’ Shukran have spiced up the bar scene in Union Market District, and we have a feeling that Desert 5 Spot is about to make even more waves.
The country western bar and live music venue, self-described as “a little bit country, a little bit rock n’ roll,” is all about good food, cold drinks, and live music. Now open at 400 Morse St NE, Desert 5 Spot is decked out with two live music stages, a mechanical bull, rooftop terrace, and an eye-catching DJ booth built into a vintage Chevy truck.

Let the good times roll at Desert 5 Spot
The two-story venue prides itself on its standout craft cocktail program, with beverage offerings such as the Jolene (tequila, strawberry, watermelon, lime) and the Ring of Fire (mezcal, Ancho Reyes, prickly pear, lime).
Visitors can also indulge in Desert 5 Spot’s dinner and brunch menus, which feature an array of elevated American comfort food. From Nashville Hot Chicken to a Garlic and Black Pepper–Crusted Brisket Sandwich, Chef Thomas McKenna is bringing Southern favorites to the District.

Desert 5 Spot is officially open as of Friday, September 5. Guests can anticipate live music every night of the week, as well as live band Cowboy Karaoke upstairs every Wednesday starting September 10. For former fans of Hill Country Barbecue Market’s karaoke nights, which came to an end this spring, Desert 5 Spot is bound to become your new destination!
For brunch lovers, Bluegrass Brunch will feature some of the DMV area’s top musicians. Plus, keep an eye out for line dancing events, which will take place every Sunday. Learn more about Desert 5 Spot here!
