The Washington Nationals recently announced a special deal for current and former federal employees, offering them two free tickets to attend the Nationals’ exhibition match against the Baltimore Orioles on March 24 at Nats Park!
The deal, which has no special caveats or exceptions, only requires those interested in the free tickets to provide proof of federal employee status, such as a current or former Government ID, pay stub, email address, or any other similar alternative!
How to get your free tickets to Nats Park
Current and former federal employees can get their tickets following a simple process on game day (March 24).
First, you need to download the MLB Ballpark app and register an account before you arrive at Nats Park – the free tickets offered as part of this deal are exclusively available through the app.
Second, you’ll have to bring adequate proof of federal employment status when you secure your tickets at the stadium’s box office. As mentioned above, there are various ways to prove current or former employment status that you can provide to retrieve your tickets, but only one will be necessary.
Third, and most important, to retrieve the tickets, you’ll have to go to the “First Base Box Office”, located at the corner of Potomac Ave SE and First St SE.
The box office will open at 11:45 am on the 24th before the game starts at 1:05 pm, but it will close after the last out of the game’s third inning.
What you should know about the Nationals’ free ticket deal for federal employees
While there is no definitive ‘catch’ or any significant restriction attached to this deal, the free tickets are contingent on the availability of seats, which is why these free tickets are only available on gameday itself and must be picked up in person at the park’s box office.
In other words, the tickets (while still free) are truly first come, first serve to those who arrive at the box office prepared to claim their free tickets first.
Do you have to be a current or former federal employee for the second ticket?
The MLB states the following restriction on their web page surrounding this deal: “Maximum of two (2) tickets per individual with proof of current or former federal employment.”
In other words, no, each individual with adequate proof of federal employment (past or present) will be able to obtain up to two free tickets to the game.
There is no wording in the deal that specifically limits the use of the tickets once they are obtained at the box office, so you are free to bring a friend, a parent, a partner, or anyone else you want.
