While the pink petals of the District’s cherry blossoms have mostly fallen now that peak bloom has passed, there is still something bright pink that Washingtonians can look forward to this weekend!
This Saturday, April 12th, is the first full moon of the spring season, and it should light up the District’s skyline overnight!
What is a full pink moon?
A full pink moon refers to a full moon during April, and it just so happens that this will also be considered a Paschal Moon, meaning that it is the first full moon of spring!
The name “Pink Moon” doesn’t refer to the moon’s color; its name is inspired by the color of the blooming creeping phlox (also known as moss phlox) often associated with early spring.
When is the full pink moon taking place?
The full pink moon will be on Saturday, April 12th, and is expected to peak in its “fullness” at around 8:22 pm.
The perfect spots to see the full moon this weekend around D.C. are also the best spots around the District for watching the sunset,
When is the next full moon going to be?
After the full pink moon, the next full moon will be on May 12th, 2025, which will be referred to as the full flower moon.
