Spend The Night At This Haunted Civil War Farm House Just Outside DC

Mª del Rosario Castro Díaz Mª del Rosario Castro Díaz

Haunted Gettysburg getaway

Multiple hosts will welcome you with open arms at this historic Gettysburg home, but only one of them is alive.

Trick-or-treating, watching scary movies on your couch or going on a haunted hike are all pretty great plans for Halloween, but how about staying at a haunted house for the night? If you’re a lover of the paranormal and want to try out something different for the scariest night of the year, we may have just found the perfect getaway for you.

Located in Gettysburg just a short trip away from DC,  The David Stewart Farm has seen many a guest come and go throughout the centuries, but it would seem like some of them never made it out. Rest easy though, none of those are recent guests and most have been lodging at the house for several hundred years, so you know you’ll be making it out of the farm exactly the same person as you entered it–or will you?

The historic house was once used as field hospitals to tend to wounded Confederates after the Gettysburg battle, so you can only guess how many spectral hosts will be there to assist you during your stay. But the good thing is they’re all friendly ghosts! That’s according to very-much-alive host, Stephani, who’s lived at the property for 36 years and has many stories about the farm’s multiple residents, which she’ll be happy to tell you about during your stay with her.

The charming house has two sunny guest rooms (one with a queen bed for two and another one with two single beds) with their own private bathroom and is fully decked out with period décor for a totally immersive historical experience.  While at the farm you’ll also be able to make use of the houses other common areas like the living room and kitchen which you’ll share with Stephani and her six furry companions ( one dog and six cats). In fact, the house seems quite normal and cozy inside and out, except for, you know, its non-living inhabitants.

On the property, you’ll also find an old barn, which like the house, was also used as a field hospital during the Civil War also potentially filled with ghosts of battles past. Oh, and there’s also a beautiful lake filled with bass, catfish and sunnies perfect for fishing aficionados.

This rather spooky outpost is also perfect for history buffs. Located 4 miles away from the center of town, the farm provides easy access to the historic battlefields as well as other local attractions and restaurants. Plus, the property in itself is steeped in history and there’s plenty to learn about it besides the ghosts.
