The Fairfax County Board had approved a project for Lorton, Virginia, with company, Alpine-X but on December 31st those exclusive rights will go away. Since it’s proposal in 2018, the project has had multiple extensions.
The Fairfax Peak project, a year-round indoor ski resort was proposed in 2018 and while Alpine-X lost exclusive access to the land, the project will still be moving forward with its plans in Lorton, according to the company.
“We are taking extra time to deal with the dramatic increases in construction cost and interest rates,” Emery, the CEO of Alpine-X, said. “Since we build projects with a long-term view we make every effort to ensure the future financial success of a project prior to breaking ground.”
The project, initially proposed at 200,000 will now cost between $400,00 and $500,000 to make due to updated amenities. The indoor ski resort, which would be open year round, would be 450,000 square feet with a 1,700 foot-long ski slope, multiple bunny slopes, a restaurant, a hotel, an Alpine mountain coaster, and more!
The project is expected to bring in $800,000 in revenue year-round. Whether or not we get to see this ambitious project, we’re excited to see something of the sort come to the DMV area.
